Emergency Restraint Belts

Emergency Restraint Belts (ERBs) are lightweight Velcro straps that can be used in an emergency to secure a person’s legs together and prevent them kicking out.

ERBs are most effective when applied around the thighs just above the knees and also at the ankles.

Once the Service User has been physically restrained, ERBs are straightforward to apply – just twist and fold to secure them.

ERBs should be removed just as soon as it is safe to do so.

Applying an ERB would be classed as a ‘Highly Restrictive’ Physical Intervention and as such all staff authorised to use ERBs need to be suitably trained.
